Bob.NET pre-sales boost Microsoft
Customers queue through night to buy new UI software
Software giant Microsoft are set to break the World Record for the fastest-selling product release ever when Bob.NET goes on sale at midnight tonight.
Bob.NET: Set to outsell bread
Retailers on both sides of the Atlantic have thousands of copies available, but this has not dissuaded customers from queueing up for several hours to guarantee their copy, and claim their £30 rebate on the retail price of £129.99.
There are reports that the software may even out-sell basic food rations such as bread and milk, in its first week of release.
Upgrade
Fans of the popular User Interface application have had to wait a long time to upgrade since Microsoft first released Bob back in 1995 as a front-end for Windows 3.1, but the lack of service packs available since then are believed by many to be a deliberate ploy to ensure even greater sales of Bob.NET.
'We believe this is a quality product that will take the UI sector to a new level', Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced at a press conference today, 'Bob.NET offers stability, power, flexibility and a talking dog, and makes intelligent use of resources.'
'Microsoft believe that .NET is developing a very strong brand identity, and combining these core values with the friendly, smiling face of Bob will enable us to build new relationships and explore previously untapped markets.'
Meanwhile, Linux users are awaiting the release of Red Hat Office Assistant 2002 - an open-source port of MS Office stripped down to include only the paperclip and other popular animated characters, without any of the bloated 'functionality' and unnecessary 'features' such as Word and Excel.
