The Robins rise in recent years has been impressive; they came straight up from a division below us to do a double over us and finish in the play-offs, having already knocked us out of the FA Cup at Ashton Gate the previous season, on the way to promotion. They are hard to beat, alright.
But the relationship between Cities Coventry and Bristol was, for many years, defined by the Sportsmanship of May 19, 1977.
On that day, three sides were in with a possible chance of relegation, Sunderland, and the two of us. And we were playing one another.
The game at Highfield Road kicked off late, and Sunderland's game had finished, with them failing to win - but the Wearsiders could still stay up, if either us or Bristol City beat the other.
Fortunately, we were drawing 2-2, and once the players got wind of the situation, a mutually agreeable stalemate ensured, with the ball gently knocked about between opposition players, knowing that they had done enough. A draw was a win-win situation.
Sunderland supporters continue to hate both us and Bristol City to this day, just for doing the sensible and sportsmanlike thing.
