In recent years, Portman Road has been a graveyard for our aspirations.
In the Suffolk Hinterland, miles from anywhere civilised, Ipswich Town ply their trade, focussing mainly on a local-ish rivalry with Norwich these days, after a few years when they were play-off challengers, Premiership survivors, and at one point playing in the UEFA Cup.
One thing has always been consistent - we can't beat them.
Christmas 2007 was our first victory over the Tractor Boys in 15 attempts, and that was only very narrowly against a team that simply couldn't win away from home. At Portman Road, our record has been truly abyssmal, with us seldom taking even a point away. However, a 2-2 draw in 2005 saw us come back from two goals down to draw for the first time in a decade.
An unpleasant characteristic of Ipswich supporters tends to be their dismissiveness towards other clubs, even when the other clubs are doing as well as or better than them, and a lack of remorse for the unfairness of their record against Coventry. In many ways, they are a loweer-league Man Utd.
