The prejudices of the 1980s die hard!
Some people still dislike Watford because of a 'long ball' game played years and years ago when they overachieved somewhat with an effective side in the top flight.
In recent years Watford have had a couple of lone seasons at the top level too, but are basically a Championship side, and one that typically does quite well against us.
After our relegation from the Premiership, Watford won the first four meetings (having also beaten us on the final day as a parting shot when they were relegated themselves a few years earlier).
There is still some truth in the idea that their football isn't the prettiest, but then neither is ours. And theirs is often more effective!
