Get in! A first league win at Carrow Road for 20 years, and our good form continues in the league as well as the cup.
With an unbeaten February including wins over the top two, and knocking a Premiership side out of the FA Cup, Chris Coleman has to be a shoe-in for Manager of the Month, and it's a pretty enjoyable time to be a Sky Blues supporter.
Beating Chelsea would be nice, but what we really need now is to keep on winning league games like this one today, because getting into the play-offs this season is vitally important.
Why? Because we're becoming visible. We survived the transfer window, but if we continue to impress but don't win promotion, there will surely be irresistable Summer bids coming in for the likes of Danny Fox and Keiren Westwood, Jordan Henderson will go back to Sunderland, and then we'll be in a far weaker position next season.
So, for the sake of preserving what we've got, we really have to aim high now - a 'season of consolidation' will be meaningless if we lose our brightest talents in the Summer. It's not being talked about much, but it's true.
Sheffield United on Wednesday night will be another strong test and we really need maximum points again.

Championship Preview
Norwich City
Coventry CityCoventry is bathing in Cup Fever right now, but we still have an outside chance of a play-off push in the league if we can maintain our good form, and we need to start winning away games again, with fixtures like this one the very kind of game we should be targetting for maximum points. Our last away win in the league was at bottom club Charlton back in December, and Norwich are themselves currently in the relegation zone.
Chris Coleman might stick with the heroic XI that beat Blackburn, but other options are available, with Scott Dann available again after suspension, and David Bell able to play against the club we signed him from, having been cup-tied in midweek. On-loan Jordan Henderson has extended his spell with us until the end of the season, and so will be able to pla, but Lee Sawyer has gone back to Chelea. Norwich welcome back Alan Gow and Ryan Bertrand after injury, but Dejan Stefanovic continues to miss out.
We lost at Norwich last season, when they were bottom of the league. We're made of sterner stuff these days, and can take the points here to build on our Cup success, and finally stop being 14th in the League. The man in the mask to continue his run of scoring, and Clinton Morrison to break his 2009 duck, possibly from the spot, in a narrow win.
Stats
- We have not won in the league at Carrow Road in 12 visits - a run stretching back to 1989.
- We've not won an away game in the league since winning at bottom club Charlton in mid-December.
- Only four sides in the division have scored more home goals than Norwich, but only four sides have conceded more too.

It's a date with Chelsea!
We needed a second bite at the cherry this time, but we've disposed of Blackburn Rovers in a contest so even it can't really be called a giant-killing. and advance to the biggest FA Cup tie we've played since the 1987 Final!
Last time we reached the Quarter-Finals was in 1998, and on that occasion we were the Premiership side, but were dumped out by lower division opposition Sheffield United on penalties after a replay.
This time we'll be the underdogs, but in the last couple of years we've shown our mettle against higher-league opposition. We've knocked Blackburn out twice, won at Old Trafford in last season's Carling Cup, and did very well against West Ham and Newcastle also.
Chelsea have stuttered in the competition this season, and were held at Stamford Bridge by Southend in the third round. Can we get past them and reach a Wembley semi-final? We can certainly have a bloody good go!
MCKENZIE OUT FOR SEASON
Leon McKenzie may have played his last game for us, as an achilles injury has ruled him out for the remainder of the season, and he is out of contract in the Summer.
McKenzie has struggled with injury since joining us from Norwich, though when he has been fit, he has been a potent weapon, whether deployed upfront or on the left of midfield.
But as one of our higher-earners, he could be earmarked for departure in the close-season, particularly if the next piece of Chris Coleman's jigsaw is to sign a proper out-and-out left-winger, which now seems to be our number one priority.
23rd February 2009:
HENDERSON RIGHT AT HOME
On-loan winger Jordan Henderson looks set to extend his loan spell with us until the end of the season.
The Sunderland wide man has made an eye-catching impact during his month with us, with a string of solid performances, but his initial deal with us expires on Wednesday after the Cup game against Blackburn.
We might not be able to land him permanently, because the 18 year old recently penned a long-term deal with his parent club, although who knows what might happen if they are relegated from the Premiership this season?
Henderson has only made two apperances for Sunderland, and is unlikely to get in their side ahead of Steed Malbranque.
FA Cup Preview
Coventry City
Blackburn RoversThis is our biggest Cup Tie for over a decade, and probably the biggest game that the Ricoh has ever staged. Chelsea await in the Quarter-Finals, and so does guaranteed live TV coverage and big, big money. But we have to get past Blackburn first. We almost did it at Ewood Park, and we did it emphatically last seaason, but this is a new day and a new game. Fortunately we responded well after their late equaliser in the first game, getting a creditable draw at Burnley, then beating Birmingham. But we will have our work cut out extending the run further, as Blackburn are still very much the Premiership side here.
Saturday's star man, Scott Dann is suspended, so either James McPake or Elliott Ward will come back into the starting lineup. David Bell will be cup-tied, and Leon McKenzie picked up an injury against Brum, so Jordan Henderson will start, and Freddy Eastwood may also be recalled. Blackburn welcome back heartbreaker Chris Samba after a ban, and have Martin Olsson available after injury, though El-Hadji Diouf is cup-tied.
It feels like we missed out chance in the first game, and Blackburn should have got something at Man Utd on Saturday, having ended their long run without conceding a league goal. Usually the team that nicks the replay goes on to win comfortably in round two. I hate to say it, but we could be in for a drubbing.
Stats
- We're now unbeaten in seven meetings with Blackburn.
- We have lost the replay on the last three occasions we have drawn a cup tie. The last time we won the replay was at home to Cardiff in the third round in 2003.
- Blackburn's only away win in their last nine games was in the FA Cup at non-league Blyth Spartans.

Fucking hell, things are starting to get good now!
We've beaten Wolves, and now done the double over Birmingham, and we've looked like one of the best teams in the division on a few occasions now.
Annoyingly, in such a wide-open division, we could be right up there, had we not dropped silly points against the likes of Doncaster, Watford, Forest, Plymouth and Southampton earlier in the campaign.
It's a little bit dispiriting that after a very solid run, we're still in mid-table but we're closing the gap, and if we do keep this up, we might just make up enough ground by the end of the season to sneak into the top six.
In the immediate term, we have to turn our attention to the FA Cup, and Tuesday's replay against Blackburn. Earlier in the season you wouldn't have fancied us at home, but the way we've played at the Ricoh lately has to give us a chance.

Championship Preview
Coventry City
Birmingham CityOur 1-0 win at St. Andrews earlier in the season was very impressive defensively, and we now have a chance to do the double over them and dent their title aspirations - just as we did against Wolves in our last home game. Birmingham have yo-yod between the top two divisions over the last few years, and still seem like a good bet to go back up this time, sitting as they do in second place, but no side has really taken the division by the scruff of the neck this year, and they could easily miss out on an instant return to the Premiership. Alex McLeish's side don't seem to score enough goals, and often have to rescue a point with a late Kevin Phillips equaliser, although on paper they possess a lot of strength. It will be another testing local derby at the Ricoh.
Birmingham will be without Phillips, which is good, and are missing several other attacking players, with James McFadden and former Sky Blues hero Gary McSheffrey also out. For us, Guillame Beuzelin and Elliott Ward are back in contention after illness, but David Bell picked up a knock against Burnley, and James McPake may continue to miss out. Leon Best will probably keep his place up front, having scored at Turf Moor on Tuesday.
We have one eye on our FA Cup replay against Blackburn, and could be tired from recent high-pressure outings. Birmingham will probably sneak it.
Stats
- We have not won in seven home games against Brum in all competitions, losing four of these.
- We have lost only once in our last eight at home in all competitions.
- Only Cardiff have lost fewer away games than Birmingham, and only Sheffield United have a better defensive record away from home.

It's a different competition, but the same part of the world, and the same outcome: City denied a win by a last-minute equaliser.
But once again, it's a result we'd have taken prior to kick-off, and Burnley pretty much deserved their share of the spoils tonight.
A point at Burnley is a good result, but it's another point closer to... well, the mid-table finish that has seemed inevitable for a while really.
Birmingham up next on Saturday - another tough game, and another one where a draw would probably be considered a good result.

The Beancounter keeps track of how many points we've taken from league fixtures, and how well we did in the same games last season, to give a guideline of where we might finish in the table. Clubs promoted from League One, and relegated from the Premiership are substituted for last season's relegated sides in the order they finished, so last season's results against West Brom are comparable to this season's results against Reading, for Colchester, substitute Doncaster and so on.
Last season's Beancounter projections were always within six points of our actual final tally.

Championship Preview
Burnley
Coventry CityStill being in the FA Cup means that games are going to be coming thick and fast for the next few weeks, and we'll have little time to rest after almost beating Blackburn before our next fixture - sticking in the North West to take on a Burnley side who have already beaten us this season. Burnley have been in the top half of the league for most of the campaign, and beat Wolves on Saturday, so we're in for a tough test at Turf Moor, as they bid to become the second side to do a league double over us this season. But we've improved since the 3-1 defeat at the Ricoh in October and become harder to beat, so we might be able to get something. Given our respective league positions, we need to be winning games like this if the play-off push is going to happen.
We welcome back Stephen Wright after his latest ban, and David Bell could be recalled, having been cup-tied against Blackburn, probably replacing Guillame Beuzelin in the starting line-up. If Keiren Westwood is well again, he will return in goal, but James McPake picked up a groin strain on Saturday and is a major doubt, so Scott Dann could start the game. Burnley are likely to be without first-choice left-back Christian Kalvenes.
Burnley are a strong side, and have a nasty habit of doing well against us. After the disappointing end to Saturday's game, we could very well get thrashed here.
Stats
- Burnley have won the last three meetings, and are looking to repeat their double of last season.
- We've not won an away game in the league since winning at bottom club Charlton in mid-December.
- Only the top four teams have a better home record than Burnley and they have won their last five at home in all competitions, including two cup games against Premiership opposition.

CHELSEA AWAIT
It's a big if, but if we get past Blackburn in the FA Cup Replay next Tuesday, then the Ricoh Arena will stage an even bigger game, as we have drawn Chelsea at home in the Quarter-Finals.
While we played in the Premiership, our home record against Chelsea was first rate. Following relegation we lost 2-0 at Highfield Road in the League Cup, but prior to that were unbeaten in eight home games against the Blues.
Chelsea almost came unstuck at Watford yesterday, going a goal down in the second half, before a late Anelka hat-trick saw them turn it around.
The replay against Blackburn will still be a tough game, however, and we cannot take it for granted that the game will be as competitive and even as it was yesterday.

Conceding a stoppage-time equaliser is painful, but we can take heart - as it's Valentines - from the fact that we've held a Premiership side at their place, and we're still in the draw for the Quarter-Finals - something we'd definitely have taken prior to kick-off.
The result was't what it was on our last trip to Ewood Park, but this was a much stronger Blackburn side, so everyone can be proud of themselves for securing the result, and financially a replay will do us no harm, especially if it's selected for television.
Fixture congestion is going to be a problem for us between now and the end of the season, with a replay in 10 days time, and midweek league outings coming thick and fast for at least the next month.
Sticking in Lancashire, we play high-flying Burnley away this coming Tuesday night, before entertaining Birmingham next weekend - how much the drama and disappointment today will have knocked us remains to be seen.
13th February 2009:
DIMI IN CARDIFF SWITCH
Goalkeeper Dimi Konstantopoulos has moved to Cardiff on loan, in a complicated deal, given that he was previously on loan at their local rivals Swansea.
The move happened because Swansea had applied to extend his loan spell until the end of the season after transfer window closed earlier this month, but there had been an issue with the paperwork before the deadline.
But Cardiff have suffered an injury to keeper Peter Enckelmen, and applied to the Football League for special dispensation to sign a replacement, so Dimi has gone to Ninian Park.
FA Cup Preview
Blackburn Rovers
Coventry CityHaving survived potential giant-killing scares in rounds 3 and 4, we now have a chance to knock out Premiership opposition, in a repeat of last season's Third Round tie. Blackburn took us lightly last time, and we thrashed them 4-1 at Ewood Park, but it's later in the competition now, so they might be taking things more seriously. They are, however, struggling against relegation from the Premiership, will not be wanting a replay particularly, and might prefer to be concentrating on the league. We're coming off a good win over Wolves, and given our mid-table position, a cup run is something to be relished. We'll also be taken several thousand fans to Lancashire who will be up for the game. It has all the makings of a classic cup tie.
Stephen Wright is suspended, so recent signing James McPake could play at right-back with Eliott Ward - scorer of the winner at Torquay in the last round - recalled to the side. In midfield, we can welcome back Aron Gunnarsson after a two-match ban, but will have problems on the wings with Leon McKenzie injured and David Bell cup-tied. One option might be for Micky Doyle to keep his place and play wide left, given that he's scored in our last two games. Another would be for either Dan Fox or Marcus Hall to play there, and the other at left-back. Isaac Osbourne and Scott Dann are almost fit again. Blackburn could field a weakened side against us as they did in the competition last season. El-Hadji Diouf is cup-tied, and Aaron Mokoena is suspended.
Lightning sometimes strikes twice, but it's hard to see us winning at Blackburn again. There is a gap between Premiership strugglers and mid-table Championship, and if we take them to a replay it would be a good result. But we won't.
Stats
- We are unbeaten in six games against Rovers in all competitions, and have won at Ewood Park twice in the FA Cup in the last 12 seasons.
- Blackburn have the second-worst home record in the Premiership this season.
- We haven't reached the Quarter Finals of the FA Cup since 1998.

After some poor performances, the City were up for the challenge of Championship leaders Wolves and secured a dramatic victory with a last-gasp penalty save.
It sets us up rather nicely for next weekend's FA Cup trip to Blackburn, and maybe, if we're capable of beating sides like these, then perhaps a late push for the play-offs at the end of the season isn't beyond us after all.
Although currently in 14th place, we're ten points behind Sixth-placed Preston, with a game in hand and the game against them coming up. If we win just these two games, we'll be right in the shakeup, everything else being equal.
We do look a stronger side than we did this time last year, despite the loss of both last season's best player and last season's top goalscorer. That's testiment to the players Coleman has brought in.
Realistically, if things peter out this season, we'll probably cash in on the likes of Keiren Westwood and Danny Fox in the Summer, but even if that happens, we'll be richer, and still well placed to achieve something next season.
6th February 2009:
BACK TO BLACKBURN
The Sky Blues will face a trip to Blackburn in the FA Cup for the second season running, after Rovers won their 4th round replay with Sunderland after extra time.
We famously won last season's 3rd Round clash 4-1, and it would be less of a giant-killing this time around, as we are doing slightly better in the Championship than we were last January, and Blackburn are struggling in the bottom three of the Premiership this season.
Next Saturday's clash could be an exciting cup tie, as we bid to reach the quarter finals of the competition for the first time in over a decade.
Championship Preview
Coventry City
Wolverhampton WanderersThese days, CCFC vs Wolves is one of the 'biggest' league games. It's a local-ish derby, and Wolves are at the top of the league, so it's likely to see one of the biggest attendances at the Ricoh this season - despite the cold and frosty weather. Earlier this season we played well at Molineux, and were very unlucky to lose to a controversial goal. Since then, Wolves have pretty much held on at the top of the league, despite several slip-ups, and while they are a good side, they are far from invincible, and were held to a 3-3 draw at home by lowly Norwich in midweek. But are we good enough to win, or even avoid defeat, given that we've played poorly and been soundly beaten in our last couple of games?
It's our first game since the closure of the transfer window, and there is a sense of relief that we've held on to our best players, while bringing in a couple of new faces. New signing James McPake could make his debut in the heart of defence, while recent recruits Bell, Henderson and Sawyer are all in contention. Aron Gunnarsson serves the secong game of his two-match ban, so Micky Doyle is likely to keep a place in central midfield. Wolves could hand a debut to expensive defender Christophe Berra, and welcome back Neil Collins after suspension. The nature of the game could hinge on whether or not the Championship's top scorer Sylvain Ebanks-Blake passes a fitness test or not.
We've not been playing well, and the new-look team is going to take time to gel. Wolves are a fairly lucky side this season, so will probably nick it.
Stats
- We are unbeaten in four home games against Wolves.
- We have lost our last two games, while Wolves have only one win in seven in the league, and that was at home against struggling Watford.
- Wolves have scored significantly more away goals than any other side in the division, with 28 this season.

2nd February 2009:
TENSE FINALE TO TRANSFER WINDOW
It's Groundhog Day, the country is covered with the worst snow for two decades, and the transfer window closed at 5 PM - though the Weather conditions have meant that the FA granted a further extension to clubs wishing to do business, if they can provide electronic documentation.
All of which means that a tense time for Sky Blues fans is likely to last until tomorrow morning.
Keiren Westwood and Danny Fox - arguably our two best players this season - have both been linked with moves to Newcastle Utd, and while Ray Ranson has said that nobody else will be departing today, it's hard not to be nervous when news reports talk about bad things happening.
Some more routine things did happen before the deadline: James McPake has completed his move from Livingston - agreed in principle several weeks ago, Michael Mifsud has gone to Barnsley, though on loan, while Julian Gray's loan at Fulham has been made permanent for an undisclosed fee.
The situation with Gray has been surprising - he's hardly played for Fulham since joining them on loan in the August transfer window, and we have had a distinct lack of wide players in our midst. But the fans never particularly took to him, he was a high earner, and appears to be one of football's journeymen at best.
Mifsud hasn't wanted to play for us for a long time and has not been in good form - though I wonder if we'll regret not playing him upfront this season, and getting the most out of him. He was our top scorer last season and we've missed his goal contribution since he's been playing as an unsettled winger.
In McPake we've signed a solid central defender who - crucially - can also fill in at right-back.
So, assuming we have actually rejected all the bids for Westwood and Fox, it's not been a bad day's work overall.
1st February 2009:
DEADLINE DAY APPROACHES
With the transfer window set to close at 5 PM tomorrow, there could still be a whole load of business waiting to be completed.
Michael Mifsud has seen talks with Barnsley fall down due to wage demands - as happened pre-season when he looked set to move to Bristol City, and there are rumours that Newcastle will bid for Keiren Westwood to replace the departing Shay Given.
While there is also a chance we could bring in one or two players, they probably won't make up for any outgoings, so it's in our interest for the window to close quietly and uneventfully so we can all sleep easily, knowing that we've held on to our best players.
COCA-COLA CHAMPIONSHIP: 1st February 2009
30 games played, some tough fixtures to come, and we look more like getting dragged into a relegation scrap than pushing on for a play-off place. The most likely scenario is that neither will happen and we'll pick up enough points to stay in mid-table, but the dogfight remains a legitimate concern, given that we're only two points better off than at this stage last season.
Even after ending their club record run of defeats against local rivals Palace, Charlton seem way adrift at the bottom, and are nine points short of safety. With Southampton and Watford making up the bottom three, and Derby and Norwich just outside, it seems certain that more than one team that recently played in the Premiership will drop to League One at the end of the season. Mind you, with Wolves, Reading and Birmingham comprising the top three, it's likely that familiar faces wlll also be going up. It's been a long time since we were in the top division, and we've never managed a finish higher than 8th since we were out of it. It doesn't look like that will change this season now.
